Choose your Guardian in this sci-fi FPS

Destiny 2 is a free-to-play action game from Activision Publishing, Inc. that takes place in a sci-fi setting filled with galactic battles and a lore-filled storyline that builds upon the fictional universe of the Destiny franchise. Players can also look forward to unique weapon types that they can use to hone their ideal combat styles.

Similar to the first installment, Destiny 2 also allows players to engage in multiplayer game modes where they can choose to go up against enemies together or challenge each other in a number of competitions with special rewards.

Dive into the extensive plot

As already mentioned, Destiny 2 is the direct sequel to Destiny and picks up on the storyline from the first installment. However, you don’t necessarily need to play the latter in order to understand the plot of this FPS game. The game features a number of story campaigns that allow you to explore the large in-game world and dive deeper into the lore-filled plot.

In addition to the intriguing secrets you can uncover as you continue to progress through the game, this action title also makes use of stunning 3D visuals with lifelike physics that allow you to feel as if you’re right inside the game. These visually appealing graphics are also paired with sizable maps and a number of expansion packs, which is why you should also anticipate some steep system requirements in order to fully enjoy the game’s immersive experience.

Get ready for a challenge

Destiny 2’s main gameplay elements are divided into two: player versus environment and player versus player. Players can opt to engage in battles on their own as they traverse the vast galaxy, all while completing story quests and earning EXP to allow them to advance further in the game. Another option is: they can also choose to engage in skirmishes and team arena battles against or with friends.

You can choose to do either one of the aforementioned game modes when going up against the intensified battle against the Root of Nightmares boss, Nezarec. Following feedback from players and a notably high clear rate, developers have opted to make the battle much more challenging in order to provide players with a more thrilling experience that allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment following a difficult battle.

The Into the Light content update

Destiny 2’s latest update, Into the Light, is a substantial addition to the game, introducing a host of new content, improvements, and adjustments that enhance the player experience across multiple aspects of gameplay. From the reprised Exotic Missions to the PvP Strike Team update and quality-of-life improvements, this update delivers on its promise to keep Guardians engaged and excited for the future of the game.

The reprise versions of classic Exotic Missions, The Whisper and Zero Hour, offer thrilling challenges and updated rewards for players. With refreshed puzzles and encounters, these missions provide a fresh take on familiar content, enticing players to dive back into the action and uncover new secrets. Meanwhile, the PvP Strike Team update brings significant changes to the Competitive playlist, with adjustments to game modes and the introduction of Clash and Collision.

These changes promote map movement and discourage passive team play, resulting in more dynamic and engaging matches. Additionally, improvements to the Notswap modifier aim to balance weapon-swapping mechanics. Trials of Osiris mode receives attention, as well, with experiments to refine the Special ammo economy based on player feedback. These adjustments aim to balance challenge and accessibility, ensuring a fair and rewarding experience.

Beyond gameplay adjustments, the update also introduces some quality-of-life improvements, including character re-customization options and an additional name change opportunity. Furthermore, measures to combat matchmaking manipulation and smurf account abuse demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining a healthy and enjoyable gaming environment for all players. On the other hand, weapons have received improvements and tweaks, too. Among the notable changes are adjustments to Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers, Lightweight Bows, and Precision Auto Rifles.

Exotic weapons receive attention,  as well, with enhancements to iconic weapons like Whisper of the Worm and One Thousand Voices. These improvements not only increase their sustained damage potential but also reinforce their status as formidable choices in a Guardian’s arsenal. In addition, perks such as Recluse and Magnificent Howl have been fine-tuned. In the Crucible, adjustments to flinch mechanics and specific weapon behaviors contribute to a more skillful and rewarding PvP experience.

Reduced flinch on Primary weapons and adjustments to Sunshot and Wish-Ender address player feedback and strive to create a more balanced and enjoyable competitive environment. Beyond weapon balance, the update also introduces several enhancements to the New Light experience. Reduced Strand Fragments cost, the addition of New Light Kits, and the option to skip the New Light tutorial provide new and returning Guardians with streamlined pathways to engage with the game’s content, fostering a welcoming and accessible environment.

The Final Shape expansion pack

The epic finale of Destiny 2’s Light and Darkness Saga, The Final Shape, promises an unforgettable conclusion packed with new ways to play, stories to discover, and epic battles to conquer. The expansion pack rewrites the playbook with the Prismatic subclass, allowing Guardians to wield both Light and Darkness for devastating new abilities. You can experiment with a knife-throwing Stasis Hunter or even a Void Warlock manipulating a freezing Stasis.

Beyond the subclass revamp, a wealth of new content awaits. You can explore the mysterious Pale Heart, face The Dread, a terrifying new enemy faction, and conquer the all-new Salvation's Edge raid nestled within the Traveler itself. Classic fan favorites like Red Death and Dragon's Breath are making a comeback, breathing new life into your arsenal thanks to the end of weapon sunsetting, a decision lauded by many fans.

If you’re feeling left behind, Fireteam Power has your back, allowing you to boost your power while playing alongside your higher-level friends. To top it all off, the seasonal model gets a rework. Instead of the usual seasons, Destiny 2: The Final Shape unfolds across three episodic acts, released in three parts over six weeks. Each act brings fresh story missions, exotic quests, and new gear to keep you hooked.

A cinematic experience ahead

With stunning visual elements and a captivating in-game world, Destiny 2 proves to be an intensely thrilling experience that new players and fans of the original installment can greatly look forward to. Although you will need at least 105 GB of available storage space to run the game, it can easily be forgiven considering the numerous expansion packs that allow you to explore new areas and meet new friends.
